DAR wreath

Members of Cricket Hill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, met on Memorial Day at the Veterans’ Monument at Liberty Square to place a wreath honoring the county’s veterans. Members said aloud the names of family members and friends who have died serving their country and Becky Morgan delivered a prayer. Afterwards, the members went to the DAR Monument on the Court Green and laid a second wreath. Each member said the name of their Revolutionary War patriot and Carolyn Hogge delivered a prayer. As if on cue, the bells at Central Methodist Church rang, playing “The Star Spangled Banner” and the ladies turned to face the flag and sang along with the bells. “It was a moving finale to a lovely experience of remembrance, tribute and hope,” said chapter spokesman Trish Reed. Pictured at the Veterans’ Monument are, from left, Becky Morgan, Judy Jay, Patty Hertzler, Regent Carolyn Hogge and Regent-elect Colanne Bunting.
