Daffodil Festival visitors encouraged to stop by CAPE this weekend

The Center for Archaeology, Preservation and Education (CAPE) at the Edgehill Service Station on the corner of Main Street and Route 14 in Gloucester Court House will be open this weekend for the public to see the newly renovated building.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by to see the work that’s been done at the former gas station, which has now been converted into an archaeology lab and office space for the Fairfield Foundation. CAPE will be open hours roughly corresponding with the Daffodil Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, other representatives of the Fairfield Foundation will be located on the court green conducting an archaeological dig, which is also open to the public.

Work at the site has been made possible by a VDOT transportation enhancement grant. While the building has been converted into an archaeology lab, the work was done in such a way to reflect the history of the site as a Texaco service station, complete with restored antique gas pumps.
