While the pandemic caused the cancellation of this year’s Gloucester Daffodil Festival, the committee went ahead with its awarding of scholarships to local students. Farren Winter, daughter of Patrick and Anne Winter, received the Daffodil Festival’s $1,000 renewable scholarship. Winter will be attending Shenandoah University to pursue a degree in music therapy. She has appeared in school musicals and performed at Donk’s. Two special one-time $500 awards were made to recognize Daffodil Festival volunteers who have died in the past year.Mary Waclo received the award remembering Monroe Keene, a magician, who provided entertainment for young children for over 20 years. Keene was a teacher in Gloucester County for many years and later in Newport News Public Schools, the committee said Waclo is the daughter of the Rev. Ken and Mary Waclo.
