Cynthia Carter Poynter, 77, of Gloucester Point, Virginia, died on July 23, 2025. Cyndi was preceded in death by her husband, Major Douglas Harley Poynter, and is survived by their three children, Douglas Poynter (spouse Ellen Poynter), Danielle Poynter, and DeAnna Atkinson (spouse Rev. Peter T. Atkinson), and their seven grandchildren. Cyndi and Doug lived in many different places, moving around as a military family, before settling in Gloucester Point. She ran an in-home daycare providing love to so many children through the years. We all have treasured memories of our time at “Nana’s” Beach House in Corolla, North Carolina, especially gathered around the table at meals and playing games together. A service of celebration for the lives of both Cynthia and Douglas Poynter will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5358 Zuni Circle, Zuni, Virginia, 23898. The inurnment is private.
