Curtis joins Sisters in the Spirit board

Newport News native Woodrena Curtis has been elected to the board of directors of Sisters in the Spirit Ministries, Inc., based in Gloucester.

Curtis serves in a leadership role in the Bible Study Fellowship International for Women, a Newport News day program, a release said. The program serves people of all ages, backgrounds, and spiritual beliefs, the release said, and Curtis’s role as an administrator is on preparation and planning aspects of teaching for more than 200 women in the program.

Curtis has been with BSF for more than 10 years following her retirement from Fort Monroe.

SIS board president Rev. Dr. Katrina W. Brown of Gloucester said, “We are so excited to have Woodrena as a part of the Ministry. She is a spiritually gifted woman who is passionate about serving the Lord and blessing others.” Brown said that “with her background in counseling, Woodrena is bringing knowledge and resources that will help us in assisting those in need. As such, SIS will be able to touch more lives in meaningful ways as God would have us do.”

Curtis has served in many areas of Christian stewardship at her church—First Baptist Church, in Newport News—including Youth Ministry; Sunday School; Vacation Bible School; Praise Dance Ministry; and the League of Christian Women. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Norfolk State University and she received a Master’s degree in Counseling from Hampton University.

Curtis is married to Ronald Curtis, and they have one son, Ronald Jr. and his wife, RaShia. They are the grandparents of two—grandson Xavier and granddaughter Kennedy.
