CURTIS AINSLIE EDWARDS JR.

Curtis A. Edwards Jr., 72, of Gwynn’s Island, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Va. He was born in Newport News, Va., on April 8, l940.

“Curt” was a graduate of Warwick High School, where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. After graduation, he signed professional baseball contracts and played for farm teams of the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals.

Later, Curt worked for many years alongside his father, Curtis Edwards Sr., who owned C. A. Edwards Company, Inc. After retiring, Curt moved to Gwynn’s Island where he spent many hours on his boat crabbing and oystering. He loved being on the water and these were the happiest days of his life.

Curt is survived by his daughter, Lisa A. Edwards of Richmond; his son, Curtis Edwards Stone of Norfolk, and one grandson, Travis Stone. Also surviving is his sister, Phyllis E. McCarron of Gwynn’s Island, and brother-in-law Jim McCarron, with whom he had established a special friendship in recent years. Curt leaves two nieces, Lynn Coger and Jan Fisher, and one nephew, Jim McCarron Jr.

Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate Curt’s life.
