’Cudas end regular season with 1-0 win over Strikers

The Baystars U19 Barracudas closed the regular fall soccer season with a 1-0 victory over the Richmond Strikers Chesterfield on Saturday in Chesterfield. The match was a battle between two teams tied for first place.

In the first half, the wet field proved a challenge for both teams trying to outrun and outmaneuver each other. When Barracudas’ goalkeeper Riley Jaquysh came out to receive a pass back from his defender, the slick field got the better of him and the Chesterfield offense got past him and headed to the goal.

Diving for the ball, Jaquysh was able to prevent the shot but drew a penalty kick for Chesterfield. He blocked the PK and a quick rebound shot.

Neither team got many shots off in this well-matched game until late in the second half. Lewie Lawrence, a Barracudas outside defender, took the ball up the left side and passed it up to striker Bay Wiggins.
