Crump, Houston power Deltas past Sharks

Luke Lineaweaver of Gloucester won the pregame raffle to throw out the first pitch of Saturday’s game, and fired a perfect strike to Deltas’ catcher Chad Mick.

Travis Crump and Jacob Houston each homered, and the Deltaville Deltas defeated the Chesapeake Sharks, 10-4, on Saturday night at Deltaville Ballpark.

Baseballs were exploding off the Deltas’s bats in the first two innings almost as frequently as the fireworks surrounding the ballpark that evening. Crump launched the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning high over the right field wall to give Deltaville an immediate 1-0 lead, and Spencer Crittenden scored later in the inning off a Matthew Sylvia RBI single.

In the second, Deltaville took advantage of a Shark defensive error to plate a pair of runs to double the lead. After a series pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, Jacob Houston stepped to the plate and blasted his third home run of the year to the alley in left center field, giving the Deltas a 9-0 ...
