The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently awarded a large matching grant to Crown Pointe Marina in lower Gloucester County that will provide funding for dock rehabilitation.

Jennifer Lapis, a spokesperson for USFWS, said the marina requested $212,555, which it will match with its own $212,555, for a total project cost of $425,110.

Martha Heric of Urbanna, who owns the marina with her husband Joe Heyman, said that the marina, located off Cooks Landing Road near Perrin, was the only one in Virginia to receive one of the Tier 2 grants.

Lapis said that the grant will make 13 new slips available to eligible boaters. In addition, the marina will install shore power and renovate a bath house for visitors.

Heric said the grant project must be completed within five years, but she anticipates the local project will be completed in about three years, with work starting in 2015.
