“Crickets on a Hill,” Judy Ward’s musical tribute to the land/sea battle in Mathews that drove the last British Royal Governor from Virginia, opens next Thursday, July 2, at Mathews High School, for the first of six performances. A joint production of the Mathews VA250 Committee and the Court House Players, the show will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, July 2 and 3; at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 5; at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the Mathews Visitor and Information Center and Mathews Pharmacy in Mathews; at Office Supply and Franktronics in Gloucester; and online at courthouseplayers.org/crickets-2026.
