Credit union forms new charitable unit

Langley Federal Credit Union, which is based in Newport News and has a branch at Hayes, has formed a new foundation to focus charitable giving on local family issues.

Randy Saltzman, vice president of marketing for Langley Federal, said Dec. 4 that the foundation is “just getting underway but there are plans for it to expand.”

The foundation, titled the Langley For Families Foundation, will operate outside the credit union’s existing charitable giving structure. Saltzman said that the foundation will complement LFCU’s continued charitable giving efforts, with some requests for assistance coming before the foundation that might be referred to LFCU and vice versa.

Saltzman said the foundation will concentrate its efforts on supporting nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of families such as healthcare, housing and human services, safety and security.
