Courthouse not a suitable location

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I attended the Mathews County Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Jan. 25. The historic courthouse is not a suitable location for the meetings.

There were 60 people in the room; 17 standing or on the stairs. Those seated were sitting shoulder to shoulder. The room has no exit signs to indicate which doors are exits. There are no accommodations for those using walkers or wheelchairs.

The February meeting will also include a public hearing on changes in voting districts. This may increase the number of attendees.

I encourage the board to hold its meetings in a location that will safely and comfortably accommodate those who wish to attend meetings.
