In preparation for Mathews County’s July 4th celebration, the Mathews VA250 Committee invites residents, neighbors and visitors to a special concert on Friday, May 15, at Mathews High School.  Co-sponsored by the Mathews Museum, Mathews Historical Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the American Revolution, this event commemorates the 250th anniversary of Virginia’s declaration of independence—the first colony to do so.  The Courthouse Community Orchestra, directed by Staff Sergeant Jarrett Kocan of the U.S. Air Force, will perform, beginning at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30.
