County’s architectural survey topic of Tuesday meeting

The Mathews County Historical Society will present the program “Architectural Survey of Mathews County Revealed” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kingston Parish House, Mathews. The public is invited, especially residents of Mathews County, said a press release.

Local archaeologists Dr. David Brown and Thane Harpole will present the findings of an architectural survey recently completed in Mathews County. They will discuss the architectural development of Mathews, its various communities, and the value of preserving architecture heritage.

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the College of William and Mary, a master’s in history/historical archaeology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and a Ph.D. in history from the College of William and Mary. He has been an instructor at the College of William and Mary and has served as an archaeologist at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the William and Mary Center for Archaeological Research.
