County to discuss resolution on using T.C. Walker for school administration

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will discuss a resolution Tuesday night requesting the Gloucester County School Board to consider using T.C. Walker Elementary School as school administrative offices. The meeting will begin at 7 o’clock in the colonial courthouse.

After much discussion and a public hearing, the school board voted during a meeting April 26 to close the elementary program at T.C. Walker Elementary School. Gloucester superintendent of schools Ben Kiser said the school closure was necessary to help the school division meet a $2 million budget shortfall for FY2013 while avoiding personnel layoffs.

School administration is currently using space in the county office building that formerly housed the courthouse. County officials in the past have expressed some interest in reoccupying that space because many of its departments are in crowded and deteriorating spaces.
