County, state officials meet on Mathews drainage issue

A resolution to the problem of maintaining the ditches of Mathews County may be likelier after a recent meeting on the topic, but at least one participant feels much remains to be done.

Supervisor G.C. Morrow reported during the Nov. 29 meeting of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors that the free-forum meeting which was held on Nov. 22 at Mathews Memorial Library had not addressed some essential points regarding ditch maintenance. Because no agenda was provided for the meeting, he said, supervisors weren’t able to prepare a list of the issues or any documentation for those in attendance.

Moderated by Del. Keith Hodges (R-Middlesex), the ditch meeting included Mathews supervisors, Virginia Department of Transportation officials and a representative from the Virginia General Attorney’s Office.
