Several volunteer opportunities are available for Gloucester residents interested in serving their community.
Gloucester County is looking for residents to serve on several local committees, as there are multiple vacancies and not enough people to fill them.
The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors regularly seeks citizens on these board-appointed groups that assist the governing body with many aspects of county government.
Currently, there are openings for residents who wish to serve on the following board and commissions: Historical Committee (Petsworth and Ware districts), Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (Gloucester Point District), Library Board of Trustees (Abingdon District) and the Clean and Green Committee (countywide).
The Clean and Green Committee, which is relatively new, advises supervisors on matters affecting the quality of the local environment. The committee will propose methods for Gloucester to promote and implement science-based sustainable practices in the county, including but not limited to infrastructure, development, green energy, litter prevention, solid waste management and recycling, beautification, and natural resource protection.
If interested, consider submitting information to the Gloucester County Volunteer Board Bank, which provides members of the board of supervisors with the names and background information of interested citizens.
To do so, visit www.gloucesterva.info (click on Board of Supervisors / Boards and Commissions); or call the county’s Community Engagement and Public Information office at 804-693-5730.
