County residents asked to help make reassessments more accurate

Gloucester’s real estate assessment office is looking for residents’ help in making the reassessment process more accurate.

Gloucester County assessor Derek Green told the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors at its meeting Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse that all improved residential and agricultural property owners on record will be mailed a letter and property questionnaire in the next two weeks for their review and input.

"Virginia law requires the county assessor check the accuracy of all real property information," Green said. "With new advances in technology, I would like to increase efforts to ensure that everything is being done to make sure property information is accurate."

To help accomplish this task, Green said his office will be viewing every property in the county in order to inventory all properties accurately. This process will include staff appraisers using tablet computers, aerial photography and Pictometry and other mapping informatio...
