County receives good audit report

The Mathews Board of Supervisors heard a report on the county’s annual audit by Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates during its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 16.

Auditor Paul Lee told board members that he had found no internal control issues, that expenditures had been “fairly stated,” and that the county’s fund balance is “right where we recommend you ought to be.”

Tax collections were “down a little” last year, he said, but that could be attributed to the tax increase.
