County receives broadband extension grant

Gloucester County has been selected to receive more than $193,000 in grant funding to support the extension of broadband service to 100+ residents and businesses that are underserved in Gloucester through a partnership with Cox Communications.

Gloucester was one of five localities to receive funding through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative.

“We’re excited about being selected,” said Gloucester County Administrator Brent Fedors. However, he said the notification of the award came at a much later date than the original announcement date of Jan. 15 as provided by the state.

Without an extension of the project completion date, Fedors said Cox would not be able to complete the work because of the magnitude of the project and the time required to complete construction.
