County receives award for budget management

Gloucester has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Stephanie Tinsley, the county’s director of financial services, was presented with the GFOA award during the Dec. 1 meeting of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors.

According to interim county administrator Sandy Wanner, the award represents a significant achievement by the county and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. This is the first time that Gloucester County has received this award.

In order to qualify, Gloucester had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines and meet stringent criteria for effective budget presentation. Guidelines are designed to assess how well the county budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
