The Mathews County Board of Supervisors voted last week to enter into negotiations for the purchase of a piece of property to build a new Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Station 1.
The action was taken following a special closed meeting last Wednesday, Nov. 2. That meeting was called for the purpose of “discussing or considering the investment of public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, where, if made public initially, the financial interest of the governmental unit would be adversely affected.”
The property under consideration is not being made public for the stated reason. The proposed parcel is located in the downtown sanitation district, said Mathews County Administrator Ramona Wilson, and is close enough to the current station to maintain quick response times.
