County employees satisfied despite less-than-average pay, report says

Gloucester County employees are paid nearly 14 percent below the midpoint of the market average, according to a classification and compensation study report conducted by Evergreen Solutions LLC.

The report, conducted on behalf of the county, was presented to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors during its Feb. 19 meeting. Yet in spite of the below-average pay, employees reported they were satisfied with their jobs.

According to Evergreen’s executive vice president Jeff Ling, Gloucester County employees regularly cited the benefits package as one of the primary reasons for both joining county staff and staying on.

"People were very welcoming and hospitable," Ling said. "And they had a lot to say."

He said most employees believe Gloucester County has a great sense of community, and the quality of co-workers was regularly mentioned by employees as one of the strongest parts of the organization.
