County board to hold four public hearings Tuesday

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday night during its meeting in the colonial courthouse to consider changing the tax year for real estate taxes from the calendar year to the fiscal year. The regular meeting will begin at 7 o’clock and public hearings will start at 8.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the board is expected to approve an interim county administrator to replace Brenda Garton, whose last day is today. The action will be taken following a closed session to discuss the contract for the interim position.

The proposal to change the tax year, if enacted, would establish a short fiscal year from Jan. 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016 for taxes on real estate; after June 30, 2016, all taxes will be levied and imposed beginning on July 1 and ending June 30 of each year.
