The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted 6-1 during its meeting July 3 in the colonial courthouse to allow the school board to use $100,000 in end-of-year savings to begin preliminary work at T.C. Walker Elementary School.
The Gloucester County School Board voted in April to close the elementary program at the school. The measure was recommended by Superintendent of Schools Ben Kiser, who said the elementary school’s closure was necessary to help the division meet a $2 million budget shortfall for FY2013 while avoiding personnel layoffs.
The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution at its June 5 meeting requesting the school board move school administration offices from County Office Building 2 to T.C. Walker. School administration currently occupies 16,000 square feet of office space in Building 2.
