Cosmetology school opens at Gloucester Point

Ms. Kelli’s School of Cosmetology opened up several weeks ago in the former Dominion School of Hair Design location in the Gloucester Point Shopping Center. The school operates alongside a salon, where students offer haircuts to the public at a reduced price.

Kelli Pollard, owner of the business, was an instructor with Dominion when its Gloucester Point branch closed; she decided to open her own school to give an option to students who would like to earn certificates in cosmetology, nails, barber, waxing, makeup and more.

Pollard said she started working with hair at the age of 12 as a shampoo girl for a hairdresser with a big clientele. “I never thought then that it would take me to owning my own school,” she said.

She has been licensed in cosmetology for 32 years and is currently working to obtain her doctorate degree in cosmetology. She was also previously an instructor with the Virginia School of Hair Design in Norfolk. She also owned her own cosmetology school...
