Cooler temps mean fish biting at Beaverdam

Cooler autumn temperatures mean more fish biting in the Beaverdam Park Reservoir. Park Ranger Elizabeth Keefer said recent catches include black crappie, largemouth bass and white perch.

Keefer said one angler caught six bass ranging from two to six pounds in shallow water using crank bait while another angler caught two dozen crappie ranging from six inches in length to 12½ inches using a jig. The crappie were caught over grass in 10 feet of water. The latest water temperature reading was 62 degrees.

Beaverdam Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 30. Watercraft are available for rent and bait and concessions are offered for sale. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
