Cookson named Player of the Year

Autumn Cookson of the Gloucester High School varsity softball team has been selected as the Peninsula District Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The sophomore has also been named to first team all-district for pitching.
Cookson pitched 12 winning games during the regular season with no losses and accomplished a 0.41 ERA. She pitched 69 innings, striking out 137 batters. She also achieved a .550 batting average with 41 RBIs.
Avery West was also named to first team all-district for pitching. She struck out 111 batters in 40 innings. West hit a .528 with 45 RBIs throughout the season.
Hannah Horsley and Kyndall Sales were both selected for first team all-district for their work in the outfield. Horsley hit a .567 with 42 RBIs, while Sales recorded a .487 batting average and 26 RBIs.
Shortstop Tessa Carteret, who hit a .500 with 44 RBIs, was named to first team all-district as the designated player.
