Cooking school

The area’s first cooking school was held in September of 1988 at Gloucester Intermediate School (which later became Page Middle School, before the April 2011 tornado leveled the building). Co-sponsored by the Gazette-Journal and Homemakers Schools Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin, the event drew large crowds for several years. Home economist Regina Whitmire from Homemaker Schools provided cooking tips and other household hints to the crowd that filled the school’s auditorium. Whitmire poses with E. Rudolph “Rudy” Nuttall, who owned and operated Nuttall’s Store in Ware Neck for more than a half century. Here, Nuttall assures Whitmire that he has plenty of Keebler piecrusts in stock for her cooking demonstrations.
