Continentals start school toiletries project

The Mathews chapter of the Continental Societies, Inc., has established a school toiletries project.

The members, with help from the Mathews Rotary Club, have collected a large supply of toiletries for free as-needed distribution to students at Mathews High School.

“We want every student at Mathews High School to have all the shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, deodorant and hygiene supplies they need,” said member Elisa Wheeler. “These are expensive for parents to provide so we hope students who need these will go to the school nurse and pick them up.”

The group polled students and parents to learn products preferred by the young people. Wheeler noted that many of these products are expensive and that students sometimes go without, subjecting themselves to bullying from their peers. “We want kids to use these whenever they need. All they have to do is go pick it up from the school nurse,” she said.
