Etc. is a new vintage goods and consignment shop in Mathews. Bill and Cathy Walker of Cobbs Creek opened the store, located on Pine Hall Road behind Linda’s Diner, on Jan. 7.
The store is open Thursday through Saturday. He is on hand at the shop most of the time, and she helps out when not working as a special education teacher at Mathews High School.
The Walkers occupy leased space that includes two showrooms and an office. They sell some of their own pre-owned goods and also have lined up five dealers who pay for floor and wall space to showcase goods in the 1,500-square-foot building.
Cathy Walker said there is space to accommodate several more dealers and they are accepting consignment items as well. Among items for sale are furniture, knick knacks, china and jewelry.
There are some antique pieces as well, including an old washing machine with copper tub and activator spotted on a recent visit.
“We like finding old things and repurposing them,” Cathy said. She and Bill take old items such as dressers and turn them into different items by using doors as shelves and other techniques along with re-painting the objects.
Cathy is originally from Northern Virginia, while Bill is from Northumberland County. He is a retired pharmacist, having previously owned a pharmacy in Southwest Virginia and also having worked for more than five years at Hudgins Pharmacy in Mathews.
The Walkers moved to Mathews County in 1990. They have three adult children, who all reside in Richmond.
