Congressional races, meals tax on Nov. 4 ballot

The ballot for the upcoming Nov. 4 general election has been set.

Locally, Gloucester and Mathews voters will be asked to choose between three U.S. Senate candidates and three hopefuls for the 1st Congressional District. An amendment to the state constitution is also on this year’s ballot. Additionally, Mathews voters will be asked whether they support the creation of a meals tax.

The normal polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with voter registrars in both counties reminding voters of the new photo identification required for voting.

When entering the polls, voters must present one of the following acceptable forms of identification: A valid Virginia driver’s license, DMV-issued photo ID card, valid U.S. passport, valid employee photo ID card, other government-issued photo ID card or valid college or university student photo ID card.
