Concerts by the Bay opens season Sunday at MHS

The Richmond Symphony Chamber Orchestra Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday in the season opener for Concerts by the Bay. The performance will be in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.

The ensemble consists of 25 musicians who aim to teach, to inspire and to unite their audiences. The highlight will be a 10-person orchestration of the Brahms Serenade Appalachian Spring Suite.

Founded in 1957, the larger Richmond Symphony includes an orchestra of more than 70 professional musicians, the 150-voice Richmond Symphony Chorus, and more than 260 students in the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra programs.

Each season, more than 200,000 members of the community enjoy concerts, radio broadcasts, and education outreach programs. The Richmond Symphony is partially funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
