Community service project

The Abingdon Ruritan Club’s Public Service Committee responded last week to a request from the Avalon Center to help prepare a new kitchen area in the emergency shelter on Hickory Fork Road. In photo at right: Kristen Lockridge, on the ladder along with Dianne Woolley, are shown applying a fresh coat of paint to the walls. The Avalon Center is creating a safe space where families can arrange a supervised time with all family members. Public Service Committee pictured above include, from left, Roger Dick, Woolley, Lockridge and Mike Ekdahl. “When Ruritans get a chance to put their brushes together, good things happen in the community,” Ekdahl said.
