After receiving a tremendous response to its March 30 and April 6 community drive-thru food distributions at Newington Baptist Church, the Bread for Life Food Pantry plans an additional similar distribution from 10 a.m. to noon this coming Monday at Newington.

Bread for Life Executive Director Monique Raposa said the community drive-thru food distributions held in the morning and evening on March 26 at both Newington and at Providence Baptist Church passed out food to about 180 households.

The distribution held just once on March 30 at Newington alone saw about 200 vehicles pass through, each one receiving 30 to 40 pounds of food, Raposa said.

“That was the most people we had ever seen at a drive-thru distribution,” said Raposa. “It went very smoothly and we finished in just under two hours. We also learned a lot.” The Gloucester Community Emergency Response Team assisted with distribution.

The numbers continued to grow again this week, with Monday’s drive-thru distribution at Newington providing food for 211 households, according to Bread for Life Secretary Debbie Brown.
Bread for Life volunteers plan another drive-thru distribution Monday at Newington for both existing clients and new clients. New clients may register ahead by emailing bflpantry@gmail.com or by talking with a pantry volunteer at a drive-thru event.

Raposa said the Bread for Life Board of Directors will meet after Monday’s distribution to review supplies and discuss how frequently distributions will be made going forward.
