Areas of the Middle Peninsula continue to rally from the devastating tornados that impacted the area on April 16.

As members of the community continue to clean up and make repairs, the latest numbers of damage assessments have been reported.

In Gloucester, county spokesperson Christi Lewis reported Tuesday that 176 private structures were affected by the storm, totaling $8,347,000 in damages. Of those, Lewis said 10 structures were destroyed and 34 sustained major damage.

In Mathews, emergency services coordinator Dave Burns reported much less damage in that county, totaling about $200,000. On Tuesday, he reported that four structures had suffered what he would consider major structural damage, while eight had minor damage. These homes, he said, will require some roof repair and siding replacement.

Burns said that a lot of other properties in Mathews had some damage with trees uprooted and a lot of fallen brush.
