Commissioners endorse White Marsh development

The Gloucester County Planning Commission recommended approval for a mixed use development at White Marsh during a meeting Thursday night in the colonial courthouse.

Zandler Development Co., LLC, applicant and contract purchaser, applied for the rezoning to allow construction of 218 residential apartment units, about seven acres for commercial development, and construction of a new American Legion building. Entry to the 38.6-acre site is proposed to be where the present American Legion building is located across Route 17 from the entrance to the Gloucester Business Park.

Commissioners voted 6-0 in favor of the proposal. Two members were absent, and Lou Serio abstained.

About 10 residents from the nearby Hillside Drive neighborhood stood in opposition to the plan when asked to show their disapproval by speaker Dana Teagle, a Hillside resident who addressed the commission.
