Several local anglers caught and released cobia for citations earlier this month, and speckled trout catches are also earning citations from the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament.

Mahlon C. Horsley of Hayes, caught and released a 51-inch cobia while casting lures in York Channel on May 27; James C. Stout of Hayes caught and released a 51-inch cobia the next day in the York Channel, while trolling; and the channel also yielded a 57-inch released cobia on June 4 for Brian Gross of Hayes, who was casting lures, according to the June 16 update on vasaltwaterjournal.com.

The Ware River yielded two citation speckled trout: a 6 lb., 3-oz. fish caught May 23 by Daniel McFarland of Gloucester, and a 5-6 fish caught May 21 by Roane Booker of Gloucester.
