Close call

Some quick thinking saved what could have otherwise been a very unfortunate outcome on Sunday, when a copperhead snake near the mat at the entrance to the Mathews Post Office tried to strike a young lady. Jerry Sadler, above, went to his vehicle and retrieved a large umbrella which he used to hit the snake on the head. Another man came by and put a piece of cinderblock on the snake’s head and together they killed the poisonous snake, Sadler said.
