Clean-up and repair work to be done at Heritage Park

A group of Mathews volunteers plans on doing some clean-up and repair work soon at the future site of Mathews Heritage Park in Moon.

Moon resident Tom Robinson, who was instrumental in having the property donated to the Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority in 2010 by former owner Conrad Hall of Norfolk, said he has been given permission by the PAA to access the Billups Creek site by boat in order to begin repairing the dock, clearing pathways for access, and maintaining the grounds.

He said the roof on an old home that has been vacant for 30 years also needs repairs, and he wants to assess what other work is needed in order to keep the structure from deteriorating further.

Robinson has created a Facebook page to keep residents informed about progress at the site, and to let them know what is needed. He said he is seeking donations of pressure-treated lumber for repairs to the 4’x40’ dock with a 10’x12’ T-head. All of the pilings and some of...
