Clean Gloucester Day to provide ‘spring cleaning’ for the county

Clean Gloucester Day 2014 will be held from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, March 8.

 

Gloucester Clean Community coordinator William Bell said he hopes that as many county residents as possible will help out this year, the fourth annual staging of the countywide cleanup effort. Last year, almost 400 volunteers turned out, despite a chilly start to the day.

 

“The event is an annual ‘spring cleaning’ for the county,” said Ralph “Buzz” Perkins, chairman of the Gloucester Clean Community Committee. The event is held a few weeks before the Daffodil Festival to “show a beautiful county to the visitors that come for the festival,” Perkins said. The Daffodil Festival will be held April 5-6.

 

The festival is the largest single event that draws visitors to Gloucester, Bell said, and there’s a need for litter to be picked up throughout the county. Last year, approximately 11.5 tons of trash was cleared from Gloucester ...
