Clean Community Committee to hold its quarterly cleanup Saturday

The Gloucester Clean Community Committee discussed strategies for getting debris off county roads and public places during a meeting held on May 25 at T.C. Walker Elementary School.

Bill Bell, Clean Community coordinator, said that the committee decided that its next quarterly cleanup will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the King’s Creek Road and Maryus area. Bell said the committee wanted to tie in its roadside cleanup with the Clean the Bay Day in Gloucester.

The Clean the Bay effort will find other local volunteers clearing the waterways and tidal marshes of Sarah Creek and the Ware and Severn rivers. Where the other volunteers will work from the water in, Bell said, the Clean Community cleanup will work from the roadway back toward the water.

Members of the Clean Community Committee have signed up to participate, Bell said, and he hopes their effort will attract about 20 volunteers in all. The group will meet at Achilles Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. so volunte...
