CLARENCE WELDON COLLIER

Clarence Weldon Collier, aka Pop Devil, of Mathews, died at the age of 88 on Jan. 28, 2021. He was born on Sept. 2, 1932 to the late Clarence Weldon Sr. and Florence Lee Collier, and a native-lifelong resident of Gwynn’s Island. After serving four years in the Air Force, he worked in the Newport News Shipyard for 32 years, while reaching the rank of Chief in the Navy Active Reserve. Clarence was a member of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church and Oriental Lodge #20. He loved being with family, attending auctions, fishing, playing games, a good joke and eating. Loving wife, Annie Ruth, preceded him in death. Survived by his daughters, Tenna Safrit (Steve), Cindy Dorsey (Glenn); grandchildren, Allen Safrit (Becky), Eric Safrit, Grace Dorsey; great-grandchildren, Reagan and Jase Safrit, and granddog, Anna. A private service will be held at a future date. In memory of our loved one, contributions may be made to Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, P.O.
