Clara Fisher Stafford, 91, of Hayes, was called home to our Lord on July 17, 2017.

Clara was a native of Hyde County, North Carolina. She had made her home in Gloucester for many years, and was a dedicated member of Abingdon Episcopal Church.

Clara graduated from high school when she was 17 years old, and during WWII she was employed at the Newport News Shipyard. She was strong, kind, always smiling with a great spirit of joy, and a love for life and people. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Philip Stafford.

Clara will be remembered always by her three children, Samuel Philip Stafford (Tina), Anne Stafford McCann (Rob) and John Barton Stafford (Evie).

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Sven vanBaars will be at 12 noon, Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Abingdon Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, July 21, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
