Civics Bee open to middle school students

The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce recently announced the launch of the 2024 National Civics Bee, an initiative aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.Middle school students in sixth through eighth grades are invited to take part in the first round of the competition which is a civics essay contest. After a panel reviews the 500-word essays, the top 20 students will be selected to move on to the next round of the competition which is a live quiz event to test their civics knowledge. The date and location for the competition will be announced soon.First-place winners will receive a $500 cash prize, second place will receive $250 and third place will receive $125.The deadline for student essay submissions is Jan. 22.
