120 YEARS AGOThursday, July 12, 1906from the Mathews Journal The picnic that was scheduled to take place at Five Points on July 4, owing to bad weather, did not amount to much on that date, but where the merrymaking and selling left off, it was resumed on the evening of the fifth, and in consequence a fair amount has been raised for the purpose for which it was intended—the building of the new Methodist Church at that place. Everything passed off pleasantly, and a large amount of oysters, ice cream, cake and lemonade were disposed of. Capt. Travers and wife, who had the management of the enterprise, displayed good tact and judgment. The tent in which the refreshments were served was a fine one, as good as we have ever seen in Mathews.
