Christmas cheer in the marsh

A decorated “water-bush” sitting in the Guinea marshes between Maryus and Big Island caught the eye of Hamilton Williams on Dec. 15. He went back last week and located Kelly Fromal, who lives across the road from the tree and who told him she had decorated it for Christmas. Williams said the decorated bush “proclaims the good tidings of the Savior’s birth to all passersby.” He was on his way to Big Island Seafood to purchase salted codfish for the traditional Christmas morning breakfast that he and his wife Betty enjoy. Contacted this week, Fromal (above) said the decorations mostly held up during the big windstorm just before Christmas; she replaced a ball on the garland and it stands there yet to greet passersby.
