Chesapeake celebrates 40th anniversary of Mathews branch

Chesapeake Bank is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Mathews branch located at 10839 Buckley Hall Road. The branch opened March 3, 1980, with a staff of four as Chesapeake National Bank. Operations were run from a trailer on the property while the physical building was under construction. The team later moved into the building when construction was completed in December of that same year.

This location was the company’s fourth site. At the time, Farmers Bank of Mathews was the only competition in town. Sibley’s General Store and Crawford Moving and Storage were the first two business customers recorded. The branch ended its first year with over $1 million in earnings.
