Chesapeake Bay Writers to present Keating Award prizes

The Chesapeake Bay Writers will hold a dinner meeting beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, in Hayes to celebrate the winners of the group’s new annual Keating Award, and to award prizes to those in attendance.

Abigail Putnam of the Muse Writers Center in Norfolk will discuss the topic “Flash Fiction: Small Stories with Big Impact.” As attention spans are shrinking and the age of online literary magazines and journals is on the rise, flash fiction is in greater demand than ever, said a press release. Putnam’s talk is dedicated to the art of making bite-sized stories feed the minds and imaginations of the reader long after the story’s end, a release stated.

The evening will begin with a social period, followed by dinner at 5:30. The public is welcome, but reservations are required at chesapeakebaywriters.org. The cost is $15. For more information, call 804-725-6163.
