Chesapeake Bank supports VCU basketball; Richmond schools

Earlier this month, Chesapeake Bank showed its support for the greater Richmond education and women’s basketball communities as serving as the presenting sponsor at the Feb. 13 VCU women’s Field Trip Day basketball game at the Siegel Center.

This event brought together students, educators and basketball enthusiasts for a day of athletic excellence and community engagement.

In addition to the game sponsorship, Chesapeake Bank donated an additional $1,000 to Richmond Public Schools to support its ongoing clear backpack initiative. This initiative aims to enhance student safety and create a secure learning environment for all.

This donation continues the momentum from the bank’s summer 2024 contribution, demonstrating Chesapeake’s commitment to the well-being and education of the Richmond community’s youth, a release stated.

“We believe in the power of community and the importance of investing in youth education just like we invest in businesses,” said Kevin Hill, Vice President Regional Manager of Chesapeake Bank. “We are proud to contribute to the clear backpack initiative and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the Richmond community.”

“It takes a village to raise a child, and RPS is so grateful to have Chesapeake Bank in our village,” stated Renesha Parks, Chief Wellness Officer of Richmond Public Schools. “With this donation, we’re able to ensure every child has a new, sturdy backpack for school. But it’s about more than bookbags—it’s about peace of mind for parents, and safety in our schools.”
